This a beautiful book with some wonderful projects all created by someone who has absolutely no idea how to set the tension on their machine. This is painfully obvious on the full page detail picture on page 34. When the tension is so loose on the bottom that the top thread is just laying on your fabric the only solution is really to get the seam ripper out. I'm fine with imperfect quilting, it can really add some authenticity to home made projects, but at least you should know how to use your machine. And why would you choose that to highlight? This really detracts from the book.

Fresh Quilting Fearless Color Design and Inspiration edition by Malka Dubrawsky Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews

I love her fabric and now, I can love her books. She writes like I think. When I saw 'If in doubt, Wing it', I knew that this was the book for me. It's full of logical, fun information. The illustrations are very good. I've learned a lot from this book and there's a great variety of projects to make. It's now one of the two books that I keep by my main sewing machine at all times. I have been having so much fun with this book.
This book has some great ideas for projects both big and small, and is especially great if you're new to sewing. Most of the projects are fairly simple and don't require learning too many extra skills to complete. While I don't always love her color combos, I love that she encourages the reader to experiment with color and try something different. The book also has a good skill-builder section in the beginning that's great for newbies or a great refresher for more advanced sewers.
This book makes me want to throw my stash in the air and work with what comes down. The colors Malka chooses are bold and varied, a wonderful scrappy look. Although the projects are all quite simple, working with all these colors will certainly help expand your color palette. This book is great for a beginner who is ready for more than the basic quilting class. An intermediate or advanced quilter will be left wanting for a greater challenge.
Loved this book - Others have written that it was motivating to see quilting that was 'imperfect'. I second that as many 'expert' quilters can be intimidating with the ease that they suss out accurate lines, matching corners, tension etc etc.

4 stars because like all the other books I have purchased, there seems to be a rush to fill pages with redundant projects (ie projects that are all over the net as well as in every other book) but skimp on details such as finishing. I found her colour combinations 'inspiring' in that they certainly pushed my creative button in using colours I often pass by.
I bought this book on without ever having looked at it first, so it was a bit of a gamble not knowing what kind of projects it would contain. Lots of sewing and quilting books have stale project ideas, or their use/choice of fabrics bores me. Dubrawsky has used some of the MOST INSPIRING fabrics and color combinations I've seen in a quilting book in awhile, and I find myself pining after some of them over and over.

I've made several of the items, and intend to make at least a few of the quilts one of these days. My favorite project so far has been the Zigzag Pillow.

This book is highly worth the money if you are interested in fun, modern projects that use great color and also push you to do some of your own improvisational piecing. Very fun stuff. Inspiring. I love owning this book.
I really love the ideas and projects presented in this book, but after having made the crib bumper with my mom (who is an intermediate-advanced quilter/sewer), I have to say that at least some of patterns are not well-written and don't work. For example, the bumper only goes half way around the crib. No where in the pattern does it say that you need to make two bumpers if you want it to go all the way around (which I would imagine 99% of people making the pattern as a bumper would want!). There are also too few ties on the bumper to hold it to the railings, so it sags. I feel as though the book was published without a technical editor trying out the patterns and making sure they actually worked.
I checked this book out from the library and liked it so much that I bought it. Other reviewers have stated that it seems to focus on other things besides quilts, and that's true. But most quilters I know like to make other things; I know I do, so it wasn't a big deal for me. The individual projects, such as zipper pouches, are really fun and the quilts are, too. It's about half quilts and half other projects. I haven't made a quilt from the book but I have made a couple other projects and they came out great. The projects look very modern and "fresh," as the title states.
