This is such a cute story. Really. Mat was a jock in high school, a football player and an all-around good ol' boy. Collin "CC" Crane was a waifish geek, and routinely harassed by the jocks, including Mat's own cousin, until he pulled the town's most epic prank--filling the boys bathroom, full, with marshmallows. Thing is, it wasn't a prank, per se.Mat's returned to his hometown to work on the police force--just like all his family, even his ball-busting grandad--but he's got a semi-secret. He's gay. And, he's attracted to the lean and graceful CC. Mat's family knows his sexuality, but they've asked him to keep things quiet. Mat's willing to risk a lot to spend time with the man who smells like sugar and kisses like nobody's business. Cradling slender CC in his arms makes Mat feel like the hero he always dreamed of being.
For his part, CC's sure Mat's setting him up, or dating him is destined to become an EPIC mistake, but he can't help wishing his high school crush fantasies are coming true. With his secret superpower just *itching* to reveal itself, CC's at a loss to explain the sudden appearance of puffy deliciousness wherever he goes.
This is a sweet and tender tale, with a bit of steam and a cop on the warpath--when his boyfriend is in peril. I dug that the bully tried to make amends, and also that Mat was absolutely smitten with shy, sweet CC. I ate this novella up.

I haven’t read a lot by Lee Brazil (surprisingly) but A Man of Unusual Talent soon took my attention, from the start it was impossible to put down. Funny, engaging and with a story to follow, it was just the right book I needed to read. Sweet, cute and quick, with not a lot drama at all. One of that books I like to have by my side when I just want to relax a little. And the writing with my favourite double point of view was really good and smart.
After having spent years trying to control his talent, CC having achieved nothing, he’s still trying to solve the mystery his that talent is, still taking shower after shower to take away the delicious (not to him) smell of marshmallows, still crushing on Mat, the handsome cop of their conservative town with the hero complex. But CC doesn’t know Mat is attracted to him too, wanting to cherish him and his vulnerability. Who’s the hero and what are their superpowers?
The title says it all, CC has a really unique talent, I still can’t believe Lee, or better the girl who came up with the prompt, could think of something so unbelievably cute. As soon as I realized it, I was laughing my head off. I hit it off with all the characters from the first lines till the last ones(my favorite CC whispered, “What is your superpower?” “Love.”). It was a lovely surprise to me.
I’d like to recommend this short story to anyone who is looking for a break with something unusual, funny and well written .

Cover art by Startled Monkeys Media. The cover caught my attention first, it’s colorful and funny. I soon liked it and wanted to know more about the story. Well done.
If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. This was such a fun story. Awesome way to use marshmellos. LOL I loved it so much. A fun read when you need a laugh or life gets too serious.

If you are looking for something tooth-achingly sweet, then look no further than A Man of Unusual Talent by Lee Brazil. Collin and Mathias will steal your heart.
Superheroes are all the rage right now, right? Well what if your super ability wasn’t flying or scaling walls like an arachnoid, but producing squishy, fluffy, marshmallows. Not as much fun, amirite?
Collin “CC” Crane has hidden his ability for as long as he’s had it. Hiding such a large secret has also made it nearly impossible for him to get close to anyone.
Then again, figuring out why he can do what he can do has been his number one priority for years.
Mathias “Mat” Giraud remembers CC from high school. He remembers how horrible some people treated CC, and he also remembers not doing anything to stop it. Guilt isn’t the only thing on his mind though when he runs into him.
Convincing CC to go with him isn’t easy, but Mat manages it. It was so sweet to see CC, despite his nerves and fear, allowing himself to be vulnerable, to take a chance on Mat.
Are there some bumps? Oh yeah. Like, armed robbery size bumps. And dear lord, the marshmallows. I was nearly crying I was laughing so hard at some parts.
CC’s relationship with his mom was really sweet too. I loved that they made a big batch of food every Sunday for their lunches that week. It was something they had done since he was a child, that they bonded over, and used the time to catch up with with each other’s lives.
I was also a fan of the superhero references, obviously. Mat was a big comic book fan, which was great. The big tough cop was a secret nerd with a hero complex. Love it.
In addition, there was an interesting twist towards the end that I hope Brazil explores more in the future. I’d really like to see what comes next for that character–that’s all I’m going to say because I don’t want to spoil anything.
Plus, Brazil squeezed two bisexuals in this little novella without just making both MCs bi. So that gets two big thumbs up from me. I love seeing proper representation of more than just gay people from the LGBTQ community in books.
Superheroes, marshmallows, and bank robberies–oh my! This novella has pretty much something for everyone. It’s short and sweet, and laugh out loud funny. Lee Brazil did a great job with A Man of Unusual Talent and I look forward to reading more from this author.
