I have found that there are three kinds of people in this world: those that tell you entirely too much about themselves; those that tell you almost nothing about themselves; and those who tell you just enough about themselves to engage your interest. I'm reminded of this after reading Please Don't Touch by Moan Lisa. Starting this volume of poetry without preconceptions (as much as possible), I found that as I read the author engaged my interest, page after page. One of the pleasures of reading is not only trying to understand what is written, but also trying to understand the writer. It think it's fair to state that both, in this case, are accessible and elusive; within one's grasp and beyond one's grasp. This isn't really contradictory; this is clearly the writer's methodology. It is as though we are on an existential voyage with the writer to "know thyself." Along the way, the writer reveals himself and at times conceals from the reader; the writer sheds light on a subject and at times leaves the reader in the dark; the writer leads us down a path and at times leaves the reader in a maze. This seeming duality isn't really disconcerting, if the reader can see and appreciate the way in which the writer is making us aware, keenly so, of our own complex lives. There is joy, sorrow, love, death, hope, despair, intimacy, isolation, humor, misfortune, in this slender though affecting tome. I can't imagine a perceptive reader who won't be touched, in a very personal way, by this admirable poetry.Product details
